Your First Season: A Survival Guide for New Managers

Starting with €500,000 and an amateur squad is daunting. Here is a step-by-step plan to survive your debut campaign and set up a promotion push.

Starting a new career in Goalcrest can feel overwhelming. You inherit a modest club with a €500,000 budget, a squad of 22 average players, and a 5,000-seat stadium. The good news: every world-class club started exactly where you are.

Your first priority is cash flow. Before signing anyone, head to the Sponsors page and lock in every deal your reputation allows. The Local Bakery and FreshMart deals need no reputation, and City Motors unlocks at reputation 10. These weekly payments cover your wage bill while you build.

Next, set your lineup. Use the auto-select button in Tactics to get a balanced eleven, then pick a formation that suits your strongest players. Most amateur squads are balanced, so 4-4-2 with a Balanced tactic is a safe default for your first few weeks.

Train your youngest players. A 17-year-old with talent 30 develops roughly three times faster than a 29-year-old. Focus training on your starting midfielders and attackers — they influence results most. Use normal intensity to avoid injuries early on.

Finally, play your matches and watch the commentary. Results will be mixed at first — that is normal. Your goal in season one is not the title, it is financial stability and a squad core you can build around. Finish mid-table, bank the prize money, and enter season two ready to invest.
